Memorial (Infrared). The Angel Fire (New Mexico) Vietnam Veterans Memorial was originally established by a family whose son, with 15 other US Army troops, died in an ambush in Vietnam. It was the nation’s first major memorial created to honor veterans of the Vietnam war. An elegant hilltop monument overlooking a broad mountain valley, it is now operated by the New Mexico Department of Veterans’ Services. It complements the Angel Fire State Veterans Cemetery, which has now been established nearby.<br />
