Bodie Island Light Station (Infrared). This lighthouse was built in 1872 to help ships navigate near North Carolina’s treacherous Outer Banks, known as “The Graveyard of The Atlantic.” It is still in operation today with its original first-order Fresnel lens, though it no longer uses an oil lamp (it was electrified in 1932). It is situated just south of Nags Head in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and all of its property is now part of the National Park Service except the tower itself, which still belongs to the US Coast Guard.<br />
