Black-Throated Sparrow. Perched on a branch of a dying cholla cactus, this boisterous fellow was defending his territory in Arizona’s Lower Sonoran Desert on a sunny, late winter’s morning. He was hanging out in front of a patch of brilliant Owl's Clover blossoms near Lake Pleasant, northwest of Phoenix.
