Volcanic Ponderosas (Infrared). This image was captured from the base of Sunset Crater while an early spring snowstorm was in progress in the volcanic field north of Flagstaff, Arizona. The lava flows and cinder cones here provide a harsh environment for ponderosa pines, but they hang on nonetheless.
