The-Airlie-Oak-Infrared.jpg
The Airlie Oak (Infrared). This tree has been officially designated as the largest live oak (Quercus virginiana) tree in North Carolina. It’s located on the grounds of Airlie Gardens in Wilmington, and is believed to be about 500 years old. My infrared camera, which is never willing to leave well enough alone, solicited the assistance of its new best friend, the fisheye lens, to capture this photo, and then conspired with our resident cabal of artistic digital elves to create the look of Kodak’s long-discontinued Aerochrome color infrared film.
Tech info: Nikon D3200 camera (modified for infrared with 590nm filter), Nikon 8-15mm Fisheye lens at 10mm, 1/400 sec. at f/11, ISO 200.
