Moonrise over Coal Mine Canyon, Arizona ©2018 James D Peterson. This beautiful spot is on the Navajo reservation of northern Arizona, south of Tuba City. Its name reflects the seams of coal (one of which is visible just below the rim) that have been mined in the past, but it also has layers of red and white sandstone that are eroded into a dazzling array of spires and hollows.
