Predators. These coyotes were apparently parenting a den of pups – you can see that the female, on the left, was lactating. We followed them along the shore of Lake Pleasant until they spotted a great blue heron, a predator hunting fish for breakfast until it switched roles and became the prey of the coyotes. But wings, all other things being equal, generally trump feet, and the heron thus had no trouble evading an unhappy fate.
