Rebound (Infrared). Cacti are nothing if not resilient, as this saguaro illustrates so vividly. They have no choice but to be, given the harsh environment in which they flourish.
The central stem of this one was broken off long ago (probably a century or more), and it responded by sprouting a couple of new ones, each of which in turn has sprouted its own arms. It resides along a trail in the Rincon Mountain District of Saguaro National Park, east of Tucson. My infrared camera kindly stepped in to capture the invisible colors that our eyes would miss.
