Over-House-Mountain_by_Jim_Peterson.jpg
Over House Mountain. By the date of this photo (Oct. 22, 2024), Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) was a bit past its prime, having moved farther away from both the sun and our planet since its peak brightness. We were well past the full moon, however, so the night sky was much darker, allowing the Milky Way to participate in the show. It was delighted to play a supporting role over House Mountain, captured (again) in front of our house.
Tech info: Nikon Z8 camera with Nikon 50mm lens, 2 sec. at f/2.0, ISO 8000. Four vertical, side-by-side images were captured and then blended together using the PTGui panorama stitching program, making this a very high resolution image.
