Rhyolite-Sunrise.jpg

Rhyolite Sunrise. Chiricahua National Monument, in southeastern Arizona, has what might be the world’s most amazing expanse of hoodoos. They are the result of a massive volcanic eruption millions of year ago, and they are covered with lichens that give them a pastel green hue. If you catch them in sunrise or sunset light, they can almost look like some kind of massive alien plant life – but they actually are native – but otherworldly – earthlings.
